<Poem>

<Translation>
A man should attain high rank
In the prime of life.
Honour is to be won on the battlefield,
So why should I stay at home?
Comes a call to the colours,
Which brooks no delay.
Spend a thousand on a saddle, then,
A hundred on a sheath for the blade.
Neighbours send us off,
Relatives crowd around.
Grey-haired elders take the seats of honour,
After a few rounds more delicacies are served.
Youngsters have other gifts,
Looking at the swords with meaning smiles.
